Welcome to the WolfWiki[1]We have been operating a boarding kennel since 1992. Deb has been training dogs since we opened the kennel. We started with 2 Chow Chows because we love them and not because they are good dogs to train, they are not first on the list. A Chow Chow is your most loyal friend and companion. He is your protector. He prefers not to fetch things though and a sit/stay better have something in it for him or what's the point. After a lot of research Deb decided to get a Bernese Moutain dog and go for it all... a title at both ends[2].
We got Donner, thunder in German, in 1994. It is his likeness on the banner. Donner is a great dog and is still with us today. He has a strong working mentality. A classic flock guard. He never strays and will not go up to strangers. Unfortunately, that is not the best show dog trait. He is not comfortable in a crowd situation and would not show well. This is where understanding puppy test results becomes important.
Here are our adventures with showing Hailey our Bernese Mountain Dog.
Oz is in the house. We now have a male Bernese Mountain Dog. The path to a champion has started with Oz.
Iris has joined the herd. Iris is the pick bitch from Haley's first litter.
Orchard Kennels was built on an old farm. We have some 20 apple trees and we keep honey bees. The bees stay in the orchard not in the kennel.
As time goes on this will become our small knowledge base of caring for Dogs.
JavaAlong the way, we managed to marry our dog boarding business with the internet. As a Java developer by profession, I have created a secure Java shopping cart (OKDirectPets ) for a web store and maintain this Wiki which uses JSPWiki . As sales have grown steadily I created an invoicing system which integrates the website with the backend accounting system using web services over SSL.[#1]The WolfWiki is operated by the Wolf Family; Deb, Mike and our son Erich. We own and operate Orchard Kennels and OKDirectPets .What's a Wiki , you ask?[#2]A conformation champion gets to prefix his name with Ch. (Champion) and obedience titles are added to the end.
